Why we do it
I saw the Carson video on the Internet, mentioned on the What page, like everyone else did in 2005, and was very intrigued. I’ve always been interested in computer controls in the home. I’ve been automating (lights, security, heating & cooling, pool / spa, etc...) our home since the mid nighties using a PC as the controller. If it has lights and buttons, I’m interested. I’m also visually oriented. When I read or listen to music, I’m seeing it in my mind as well. There’s a great scene from, a likely little known, movie called Electric Dreams, where the computer takes over the house and throws itself a party including flashing all the lights in the house to the music it plays on the stereo.
So when somehow I came across the Carson video again in November 2006 I decided to order the 16 channel starter kit from Light-O-Rama.
What I didn’t know then is why I’d continue to not only want to do it but why I’d want to expand. Setting up the light show, connecting all the pieces, and sharing it with family, friends, and everyone who just drives by was just so fun and exciting.
Beyond all of those reasons, are the kids who have asked their parents to drive by the “light house” again and again. Friends who have just parked out front for a hour so their kids can watch and watch. Neighbors who have said they enjoyed the show so much that they’ve given me elements to add in this year. Smiles on peoples faces - that’s why.
